The children love referring to our high-frequency words as popcorn words because these are the words that "POP" up all over the place when they read. We teach them in the order of our Reading curriculum with the addition of a few other important words.
Many of the words cannot be sounded out because they do not follow traditional decoding rules and can't be learned through the use of pictures. Children should not work to decode them but recognize them by sight.
Now EDITABLE! Add words you would like.
You can use these popcorn pieces as word wall words or fun flashcards. Print on card stock and laminate for best use. Enjoy!
Words included are I, am, yes, no, can, the, little, and, said, in at, they, big, is have, his, on, was, a, to, we, my, but, he, for, him, play, go, of, want, fun, blue, are, help, could, yellow, would, what, she, her, like, it, look, be, good, will, they, you, that, do, love, two, friend, one, three, two, four, go, five, out, where, zoo, green, has, small, not, down, by, what, dog, give, red, from, up, here, cat, so, see, me, with, all.
