This center activity will help kindergarten students build their writing skills through hands on learning activities. The centers include beginning of the year sight words and common core aligned activities. These centers are made to do with or without daily 5 and be done independently by students with very little instruction.
How to use Kindergarten Writing Centers
If you are implementing daily 5 in your classroom this is a great way to begin your writing portion. These centers are set up to run for an entire month. There are 5 different centers, one for each day of the week. The students can then repeat these activities the next three weeks of the month. It is a great way for students to take responsibility and work independently. Once students have been introduced to the center they should be able to work on their own the next week.
I have incorporated beginning of the year kindergarten sight words into this center so students can practice them through their writing. There is a gradual release of responsibility from Monday to Friday.
Monday- Sentence Strips
Tuesday- Fill in the Blank
Wednesday- Write the Room (in black and white/color)
Thursday- Building Sentences
Friday- Free Write
