    Description

This year-long bundle of narrative, opinion, and informational writing lessons for Kindergarten makes it easy to plan your writing instruction! Posters, visuals, and writing rubrics are all included to save you time!

Teaching Kindergarteners to write is a big challenge - especially if some of your students begin Kindergarten not even knowing their letters! You want your students to grow in their writing (and drawing!), but maybe you're not sure where to start.

Or maybe you DO know where to start, but planning fun, developmentally-appropriate lessons is taking up a ton of your time!

When I first began teaching Kindergarten, I struggled to find appropriate, easy-to-use lessons. At one school, our writing curriculum didn't have enough plans for the entire year, and preparing the lessons took a LOT of time. At my next school, there was no writing curriculum at all!

So I decided to design my own lessons based upon my students' needs. And I saw firsthand how they helped my students go from drawing (or scribbling!) to writing complete stories and books. My students were excited to write, and some of them began conducting their own "writing workshops" at home!

Today, over 5,000 teachers have used these same lessons with their Kindergarten students. They use them either as a standalone curriculum or to supplement their school's existing writing program.

The materials in this curriculum will help you:

    - Bring your students from drawing to writing

    - Establish writing workshop procedures that increase students' independence

    - Engage students in meaningful, enjoyable writing activities

    - Challenge students as writers, while still honoring their developmental needs

    - Significantly cut down on your planning and prep time

This year-long writing workshop curriculum includes:

    - 7 units that teach writing workshop routines and procedures, personal narratives, patterned books, how-to books, opinion/persuasive writing, fiction and fairy tale writing, and nonfiction/informational writing

    - Complete minilessons with plenty of detail, so that you can easily leave them for a sub (131 minilessons total are included, leaving you time for reteaching and special projects)

    - Materials to accompany the minilessons (graphic organizers, posters, and visual aids)

    - Teacher-friendly and student-friendly rubrics

    - Organizational materials to simplify planning and assessment

The lessons each take about 10 minutes to teach. Suggested mentor texts are included (so that students can learn from published authors), and you can view a list of suggestions HERE. You can also easily substitute your own texts!

You can purchase the units individually, but you save over 20% by purchasing this bundle.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is this curriculum based of Lucy Calkins?

This curriculum uses the writing workshop model, just like Lucy Calkins’ units do - but it's not directly based on her work. If you're looking for something that you can use alongside / to replace some of her lessons, this might be a good fit - many teachers use it for just that!

    Are the files editable?

Yes, I have editable versions of the lesson plans available. Due to copyright restrictions, the other parts of the materials (like posters and other printables) are not editable.

    Will this work for homeschooling?
I designed the curriculum based on a traditional classroom setting, but many parents have used this for homeschool instruction as well! You can read more about how to adapt the writing workshop curriculum for homeschool students here.

If I purchase just one unit and decide I want the bundle, can I get a refund for the unit I already purchased?

Absolutely! Once you've got the bundle, you can contact TpT support and explain that you now have a duplicate purchase. They'll refund you the purchase price of that one unit.
