Homework is an important practice time for our students. Often we teach a lesson and then assign a page out of the book or workbook for them to do only to have them forget the fabulous lessons we taught the week before.
The 5 +1 homework format will solve that problem.
We have found great success with this format of homework. Our test scores are rising every year and in fact we are implementing this across all grade levels. Try this and you will find that your students will succeed too.
The idea behind this format is that there are 3 review problems- skills you have already taught, but want to keep in their minds, and 1 problem from today’s lesson, and one constructed response. I have a bank of these pages in folders labeled for each week of school. I have the same review problems each year, but the current lesson questions may need to change. So I often fill those in at the end of the lesson.
I have included a month’s worth of homework in this packet.
5 + 1 allows you see who needs what skills easily. Valuable time is wasted everyday going over homework- with this format teachers can quickly assess the needs of the class and students will feel more confident in working together.
I hope you find this useful and come back for the other sets.
(By the way, my teachers asked for one question to practice writing the sight words, so you will also see a practice section usually on number 4.)
