### PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This lesson is compatible with the Kindergarten through Second Grade Next Generation Science Standards* NGSS*.K-2-ETS-1-2 and NGSS*.K-2-ETS-1-3. NGSS*.K-2-ETS-1-2 states that the student should “[d]evelop a simple sketch, drawing, or physical model to illustrate how the shape of an object helps it function as needed to solve a given problem.” NGSS*.K-2-ETS-1-3 states that the student should “[a]nalyze data from tests of two objects designed to solve the same problem to compare the strengths and weaknesses of how each performs.

This lesson teaches students about early engineering concepts by building a simple catapult. It covers advanced topics, such as parabolas, angles, force, and gravity in ways that are simple and easy to understand.
The students will design and test two different types of catapults. They will record and analyze their data to see which worked better at shooting the same items across the room.
