I created these to go with our Weather Unit and it incorporates all AVID WICOR strategies (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading). It is perfect for Kindergartners since they can trace the simplified sentences that also include common high frequency words as well as color words. These are geared for Kindergarten but can also be used for first grade for review/reinforcement.
These are great for any school but can also be used as evidence for AVID certification. I would limit one of these worksheets per day to keep students’ interest/engagement at its fullest. Demo with the students showing how to trace and read the sentences. Color the pictures to match what the sentence says. When complete, students must read their sentences (with tracking) to at least one other student. When they finish reading to each other, they must ask the other student one question regarding the worksheet i.e. Have you been snowboarding? Do you have your own helmet? Who takes you to the snow? Etc. The questions should relate to their current worksheet.
These worksheets can be organized into a weather book. I slightly off-centered all the worksheets so the left side has a little extra space for holes. I included the cover sheet as well. Thus, at the end of your weather unit, students will have a book they can take home or keep in class to read to each other. These would also be great to display during Open House night.
Pictures can be cut, sorted and organized on the included graphic organizers. They can also be added to a large class poster. I included extra clipart pages to be used.
