Valentine’s Day! How will you be celebrating in your class? Handmade valentines, a giant valentine exchange with bags and mailboxes, a party with food and games, or an alternate celebration because of religious diversity? We’ve had each of those at different times in Rainbow City!
I hope you will find this Kindness Collector a great addition to the way you observe the themes of love and kindness in February, or at any time of the year! The concept is simple: collecting kindnesses like fireflies in a jar. We know that fireflies are fun to watch inside the jar for awhile, but the best way to really enjoy them is to release them into the air, where they will fly freely and bring joy to many. Kindnesses are the same way. They are best when released and shared!
Students can collect their kindnesses by writing them on the hearts or circles (or both!) and gluing them to the empty jar, or they may write directly on the hearts or circles of of the jars with those shapes printed on. Simple on purpose - Collect all the ways you have shown kindness or have had kindness shown to you this week or month or day.
Kindness Collectors can be a wonderful part of morning meeting where students share a little about the kindnesses they have given and received. They also make a beautiful bulletin board display or a page in your students’ notebooks.
Enjoy each kindness!
