Choose a month to dedicate to focusing on kindness- in the beginning, end, or even middle of the year. I did this with my students at the end of the year (when bickering is on the rise), and it worked wonders! They were excited about the read aloud and activity each day.
Each read aloud and activity will spark conversation and discussion with your students where you can emphasize the positive impact of kindness- no matter what age, no matter how small, and no matter to whom- it's all important.
This is a great tool because you can be flexible with your implementation. You can choose which books to read and what activities to do or not to do. There is a maximum of 20 school days in a month, but I've included 25 book recommendations, a synopsis of each book, and 25 ideas for activities and corresponding sheets if needed (for example, a question sheet after watching a video, and a template for a kindness quilt, and more).
Some activities are very simple (if you need a no-prep day, or if you have younger grades), and some activities are more involved.
Included in this 50-page resource is:
- A list of potential read-aloud books & a brief summary of each
- A list of activities
- A sample schedule and a blank schedule
- 1 page per each activity (39 pages total, with instructions and oftentimes, examples of the activity from my students, and some with corresponding print out pages)
- Additional resources page
