My students have been writing with great ideas, but their mechanical skills are less than desirable. This unit confronts that.
I am piloting Standards Based grading for my district this year. Each day, I focus on a different standard with a skill or subskill.
These lessons include many parts: Essential Vocabulary (run-on, comma splice, fragments, incomplete sentences, Thumb Rule, complex sentence, subordinating conjunction), and/or Essential Question based on the term, "I can..." statement based on standard (see list of ELA standards), lesson slides, Exit Slips (self-assessment for students and for you to see where they think they are), and Homework slide.
I am a sixth grade teacher, but the same standards are in seventh and eighth grade.
