In this lab the students are walked through how to calculate and solve kinetic and potential energy. This lab is very detailed and walks the students through step by step. We used ramps that were just under 8 feet long and 3 text books to get the heights that are given. I then marked the ramp in increments of 70cm to have several equally spaced markers to get the time. I had my students download the app "hudl technique" so that they could watch their carts cross each marker in slow motion. You may interchange this part for the materials you have available and it will still work. The students were given the choice to add any amount of mass to the cart and they loved that they could make their own decision on this. To complete this lab you will also need scales and carts to roll down the ramp. I had a large amount of success with this 2 day lab and the retention of this knowledge with my students was phenomenal.
