This essay teaches several key concepts - MLA research, a discussion of what real chivalry looks like, and an examination of the people in students' own lives with the hopes that they will recognizes some exemplary characters.
If you access the "7th hour example" document you will see paragraphs written during class with student assistance that model the kind of writing I hope my students work toward. These paragraphs are written with a slightly altered topic so the work cannot simply be duplicated and turned in again.
You will also find a grading rubric/checklist and an additional handout that breaks down the introduction writing process as this is always a struggle for freshmen it seems.
Please note - this was last used with MLA 7 and therefore may require slight updates if you are teaching MLA 8.
