For pre-k and kinders to practice counting on and skip counting in a fun and engaging way!
This math activity is designed to correspond with the kings and queens ELA unit on engageny.com but can be used independently. It's great for math centers, a whole class partner game, or independent work. I used it in special education with student who had not yet mastered rote counting.
Print and laminate game boards and game pieces.
Student chooses a card and places it over the king on their game mat. They then write the next 3, 5, or 7 numbers on the lines. The skill they are practicing is counting on from a varied starting point. To differentiate for students who can rote count independently, ask the student to skip count by 2’s, 5’s etc.
Students write on the mats with dry erase markers and erase when finished.
