Product Description
King of the Mountain {Rhythm Game - 4 sixteenth notes / takadimi}

Looking for a rhythm practice game for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders? Students love the competitive edge of trying to become the "king of the mountain" and the silliness of being "roadkill" when they make a mistake. Teachers love that no one sits out!

Students read rhythms in a circle, trying to reach the top or the "king" position. When a mistake is made, that student goes to the bottom ("roadkill") position and other students shift up the mountain for more rhythm practice. Can be played with any number of students.

Print these cards (black and white or color) and laminate for durability, if desired. Cards can also be used with instrument play, group review and with other rhythm games!

Includes:
- Game Directions
- Teaching Hints (sequencing instruction)
- 48 color flashcards
- 48 black and white flashcards

Rhythm notation includes: quarter note, quarter rest, beamed eighth notes, half note, 4 sixteenth notes

I usually start with a few "sixteenth note cards" and add more to increase difficulty, so I included:
- 1 "King" card
- 1 "Roadkill" card
- 26 "Sixteenth note" cards
- 20 "Non-Sixteenth note" cards
- complete set in black and white

*This set can be used with any counting system - rhythms are all in traditional notation without labels.

If a teacher has more than 48 students, duplicate copies can be made without affecting the game strategy.

While this game can be played as early as 2nd grade, I recommend saving this game for the middle of 3rd grade or above. My older kids get excited about this one!

This download is a ZIP file with a PDF that can be projected onto your screen, smart board, white board or whatever you use in your classroom. This product is not a PowerPoint, but when viewed in full screen, can be used like a PowerPoint. This file can also be printed.
