This is a 17 slide, highly animated, power point presentation on the Kingdoms of Medieval Africa: The Cultural Legacy of West Africa. All the slides are editable so you can adjust your presentation as you see fit.
One of the most important parts of West African culture are oral traditions through the griots. The griots memorized stories, sayings, and the history of their city or town.
Every village had its own griot. These people were living libraries of African culture and history. The griot kept records of all births, deaths, and marriages and cultural traditions through the generations of the village or family. Some griots could tell the ancestry of families going back generations.
The griot legacy goes back to the 15th century from the Mandinka empire of Mali. Up through the 19th century griots have told and retold the history of the empire through generations keeping the stories and traditions alive.
