Product Description

Phonics Boxes are activities formatted for the boxes available at Michaels that contain 16 smaller boxes. These activities can also be stored in 6x9 brown envelopes or any other way you would like to store them. Each “box” contains a sound or syllable sort and a flashcard activity/game. The cards can also be used just as flashcards and, if laminated, you can have your students use dry erase markers to highlight phonic concepts (such as vowels, digraphs, blends, etc.) There is a title card for the front of the box or envelope and directions. I use double-sided tape to adhere them.

Word Sort: Print, laminate, and cut out the header cards and the word cards. Students take turns sorting them by identifying the silent letters.

“Knights versus Dragons” – Using the word cards from the word sort and adding the spoiler cards, students can either divide into teams (knights and dragons) or collect for themselves – they decide which cards they want to collect (knights or dragons). Students take turns drawing a card and reading the word correctly. If they get the knights or dragons they are collecting, they hold onto the card. If they get the one they are not collecting it is discarded. Spoiler cards cause them to lose either a knight or dragon if that is what they are collecting. The team or individual with the most knights or dragons wins!
