This is an excellent multisensory lesson based on the Orton Gillingham Methodology, for students in middle or high school grades.
The multisensory lesson focuses on chameleon prefixes "com-" and "con-" What is a chameleon prefix? It is a prefix that changes the last letter based on the first letter of the next syllable.
Anyway back to the other skills included in this research based activity packed multisensory lesson (wow that was a mouthful) -
Chameleons "com- and con-."
Vocabulary development using the prefixes "com- and con-." There is a vocabulary graphic organizer included that is really a powerful multisensory tool to develop vocabulary of the prefixes "com- and con-." The graphic organizer includes the word, meaning, part of speech, student generated sentences, and the origin of the word. Each of these parts work together to help students develop vocabulary.
Also included are writing activities that support writing development. Please take time to read the teacher notes at the beginning of the unit. There is another focus on coding words. Please look over these mini-discussions prior to presenting to student if you are new to supporting students, or for a quick review.
The lesson/unit has a table of contents so that you can select a specific skill. So remember that you select what you need - you know your students!
Finally, I am so excited to be able to share this great multisensory lesson based on the Orton Gillingham Methodology, and scientifically based strategies and concepts that will help students become stronger readers and writers.
