This is an arrangement I did of the traditional song "Kookaburra" for beginning band. I had to do quite a bit of shuffling to keep the clarinets under the break, but it works out pretty well. I did not have any percussion this particular school year, but would have most likely had them on bells doubling the flute part. How I long for a marimba... This makes for a good way to teach a round in a band setting. The woodwinds begin, followed by the brass for a nice two-part round in the middle of the song. This is also a fairly obvious example of introduction and conclusion using similar material from the melody (makes it easier for students to pick out aurally).
Instrumentation is Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Trumpet and Trombone.
