Ku Klux Klan & the Civil Rights Movement: A CSI on Medgar Evers, 16th Street Baptist Street Bombing, James Chaney, Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman, Viola Liuzzo, Martin Luther King, Jr.!
This top-notch resource is included in the Civil Rights Movement Unit Bundle!
In this outstanding and 100% engaging investigation, students take on the role of investigators as they analyze five different high-profile murder cases involving the Ku Klux Klan during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. Students learn about the Freedom Summer Murders (the murders of James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner), the assassination of NAACP leader Medgar Evers, the 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing, the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., and the murder of Viola Liuzzo.
In each case, students will examine three separate documents: two primary sources related to the event (newspaper clippings, images, police reports, etc) and one secondary source that provides the overview of the event (which is linked via QR code or clickable link in the Google Classroom version). Students will use the included source guide to analyze the information, then a final prompt is included to prepare student response to two overarching questions. A pre-writing and additional research section are included to enhance the final product!
A full key and a Google 1:1 version are included!
