The following eighteen-page study guide provides students guiding questions while they read Kurt Vonnegut's dark comedy satirical novel "Slaughterhouse Five." The questions vary in difficulty, but they encourage students to not only simply recall comprehension questions about plot but also infer Vonnegut's style. Other assessed literary concepts include allusions, character archetypes, (indirect) characterization, conflict, costume, figurative language, foreshadowing, imagery, irony, juxtaposition, mood, motifs, setting, point of view, symbolism, themes, and tone. There are roughly one or two pages for each chapter; all ten chapters are included. This packet can be used by itself or as a formative assessment to prepare students for the summative assessment of a series of quizzes or a test.
Multiple choice quizzes and a multiple choice test that act as summative assessments for this formative assessment are available as separate purchases. A test is available by clicking here
