Traditions of Kwanzaa
Describes the traditions of Kwanzaa that include the customs, foods, activities, and family. Then students take a quiz on Kwanzaa traditions.


7 Symbols of Kwanzaa
Provides a detailed description of the seven symbols of Kwanzaa and the Swahili names: Place Mat (Mkeka), Mazao (Crops), Ear of Corn (Muhindi), Seven Candles (Mishumaa Saba), Candle Holder (Kinara), Unity Cup (Kikoma Cha Umoja), and Gifts (Zawadi). Then students write a paragraph about the 7 symbols.

7 Principles of Kwanzaa
Provides a detailed description of the seven principles of Kwanzaa and the Swahili names: Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), Ujima (Work & Responsibility), Ujamaa (Economics), Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity), and Imani (Faith). Then students write a paragraph about the 7 principles.

Kwanzaa Venn Diagram
Students compare the similarities and differences between their holiday traditions and Kwanzaa. Then they write a paragraph detailing the similarities and differences.

Answer Keys

Includes answers to all of the quizzes, essays, and the Venn Diagram.

All activities are featured in color and black & white. They may be used during classroom instruction or in the small group setting
