Product Description
Kwanzaa: Passage & Activity for INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOKS - You and your students will enjoy learning about the seven values and principles of Kwanzaa, as well as what a few of the symbols mean. This is a perfect passage for December, but it could actually be used during Black History Month, too.

Please click on the preview above to get a better idea of what is included.

Please note... This passage will help increase your students' understanding of the holiday of Kwanzaa, but there are some details of the holiday I did not cover. Kids could do further research if they have any unanswered questions.

IMPORTANT---- I offer this SAME passage in two different formats. This particular passage is formatted for interactive notebooks. It is the exact same passage and questions just formatted differently from the full page version.

If you would like to purchase the one page passage with 6 text-based questions that go along with the passage, click HERE. You can then read the description to see which format works best for you.

This passage was written with 4th graders in mind, but it can be used with more advanced third graders or weaker fifth grade readers. Please use your best judgement.

This pack includes a short close reading passage that should help students better understand the holiday of Kwanzaa. The passage is a half sheet, so it will work perfectly to glue into an interactive reading notebook or social studies notebook. Once glued into the interactive notebook, students can write their thinking out to the side of the passage.

In addition to the passage, there are three flippable activities (all printed on one sheet) for their notebook. One is on the definition of secular, one focuses on the 7 values/principles of Kwanzaa, and the others focuse on 4 comprehension questions related to the passage.

In addition to doing this activity as a whole group reading lesson, you could also have students do it during a literacy center. Feel free to use it in your classroom however you would like.

**PLEASE... if you see any typos, send me a message before you rate the product. I can usually have corrections made very quickly. Thank you ahead of time.
