This group of fun, interactive centers is designed to help students build a strong phonemic and phonological awareness of words the begin with l-blends (bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl).
Center 1: Picture Sort (Phonemic Awareness)
Students will sort pictures based on the beginning blend they hear when they name the picture.
Center 2: Cut, paste, sort worksheet to accompany Center 1.
Students will cut out pictures, name them, sort them and then glue them next to the l-blend that the word starts with.
Center 3: Spin and Cover (2 versions)
1st: Students spin the spinner, name the blend they land on and then cover the picture that begins with that blend.
2nd: Students spin the spinner, name the blend they land on, then find a word that begins with that blend, and then they blend and read the word that had that beginning blend.
Center 4: Name & Clip. Name the picture on each card, use clothespins to clip the sound that the word begins with.
Center 5: L-blend word build cards. Students match a picture card(with beginning blend) to the rest of the word. Ex: Sl-ed. There is a recording sheet to accompany this center.
Center 6: L-blend fluency strips. Strips for each blend with 10 words for each blend and 1 mix strip. Students will use these to practice blending words and becoming more fluent in reading l-blend words.
