This pack includes activities designed to give students multiple opportunities to practice working with and recognizing L Blends in words.
The activities were built with struggling students in mind so the pictures or words are reused throughout the activities to give students multiple opportunities to recognize L blends in words. Most of the time students who are struggling with a skill simply need more time to practice the skill and need them broken down into smaller chunks. The goal here was to give my students a weeks worth of L blend activities that reused the same words or pictures so students were familiar with them but the activities were varied enough so they weren’t doing the same thing each day.
*There are 4 different activities included and there are both mixed L blend activities and single focus L blend activities. The mixed activities include all 6 L blends mixed in together were as the single focus activities have students working with 1 selected blend at a time.
Magnet Build It
Student use magnets to fill in the missing L blend. The is a mixed L blend activity, 4 different Build It mats.
These can be used as a recording sheet for the Magnet activities or they can be used as a separate stamping activity. Student fill in the missing blends using stamps and color in or dot with a bingo marker the correct circle on the side.
Dot a Blend
Student use bingo markers to find the path through the page, marking all the L blends on the page. Each sheets focus on ONE L blend at a time and contains no other L blends on the sheets to keep students from getting confused. Single focus activity, 6 pages
Each L blend has a page with 6 pictures common items on it that start with that blend. Print and laminate the cards. Use as a whole group activity to introduce blends and then a center or in pairs to give students extra practice. Mixed focus activity.
Add It Up
Students practice reading the words on the sheet then add up the value of each letter and write the total in the box on the right side. My students do this activity last as I use it to introduce new words with L blends in them. We use highlighter to mark the blend so they practice recognizing blends in unknown words. Single focus sheets, 1 for each L blend.
