CLOSE READING & CONVERSATIONS WITH TEXTS

Hello, Friends!

As a teacher, I want students to go beyond connecting with texts. I want them to converse with texts. AP analysis, argument, and synthesis essays demand this skill of students as well. I want students to show their critical reading engagement and comprehension. One way to do this through annotation. Annotations help students remember what they were thinking as they read, alert instructors to things that might be discussed as an entire class, serve as ideas for future writing assignments, and communicate to instructors something that may need answering.

· Level 2 Close Reading & Annotation guidelines and rubric (color), which is aptly suited for AP students as well as Pre-AP students. (You may want to compare the Level 1 Rubric and Level 2 Rubric. (PDF)
