I absolutely love making my students' centers more meaningful by allowing students to check themselves. It's the perfect way for students to hold their own selves accountable for their work, and see how they are progressing with the skill!
This center practices differentiating examples of literal and figurative language.
Students will read the card, and decide whether it is an example of literal or figurative language.
Students will then lay the card in the appropriate pile on their mat.
When students have finished sorting, they can scan the QR code underneath of that heading on their mat to see what cards should be laying in that pile.
I glued the mat inside a file folder and attached a baggy with the cards inside for easy storage and usage for students. You could also store this in an actual folder, storage sized baggy, or mailing envelopes!
If you do not have technology to use the QR Codes, you could simply chop them off of the bottom and its as if they were never there!
