Activity 1: Pepper Pass
Determine the meaning of each “Salsa Word” by pairing it with its synonym and antonym. Shuffle the yellow synonym peppers and red antonym peppers. Deal them out to four players. On the Pepper Pass Game Mat place 6 Salsa Words. Each player takes turns placing a synonym or antonym on the Salsa Word, starting with Player 1. If a player does not have a synonym or antonym, they must pass their turn. When a Salsa Word is matched up with a synonym and antonym, remove it from the board and place a new word down. The player who gets rid of all of their peppers is the winner.
After the game, fill out the proper recording sheets.

Activity 2: Flip-a-Chip Concentration
Determine the meaning of common idioms by matching an Idiom Nacho Chip to its Meaning Bowl. Choose a set of numbered chips and their matching bowls (1-6) and place them face down on the concentration mat. Players take turns flipping over game pieces to try and find an idiom and its matching meaning. Play three rounds using various sets of chips and bowls. The player with the most pairs at the end of three rounds is the winner.
After the game, fill out the proper recording sheet.

L.5.5. Demonstrate understanding of figurative language, word relationships, and nuances in word meanings.
