This is a 10-question, multiple choice assessment of the L.8.1.B English Language Arts Standards » Language » Grade 8 Common Core. In Kansas, these are also L.8.1b – Form and use verbs in the active and passive voice. Your state might have it listed with slight differences.
The test is A-D, with the first 8 questions focusing on the more-important identification of active voice. The final two questions focus on passive voice. Basically, 1-8 shows students four sentence, one of which uses active voice, and they need to identify which one.
Use this as a pre-test or post-test. Even better is the fact that it's aligned to History content for 8th grade, so the subject matter is John Adams. Your students will appreciate the integration of courses, and it takes so much longer for a teacher to try to do this alone.
Ten questions on a single skill makes it easier for you to identify deficiencies. DOL and many textbooks fail to do this, and MAP testing analysis is a pain. Use this to guide your instruction or just to see if the student learning was what you'd expected. As always, I would use my multiple choice correction form if students do not do well.
There is nothing wrong with using multiple choice. It's test prep and focuses on skills. The results are something you can use to show parents and take action. And it takes almost no time to grade if you use an online quiz tool like Quizstar or Google Forms.
