This is a Spanish small group reader's theater is for 3 students. It is based on Aesop's tale. Aesop's tales are a great way to teach students how to look for lessons or morals! The moral of the fable is 'There is a Time to Work and a Time to Play.' In the script, the Ant is working hard to build up his supply of food for winter. The grasshopper spends every day playing his fiddle and never working. The Ant warns the Grasshopper that he better be careful or he won’t have any food for winter. The Grasshopper doesn’t listen and when winter comes is about to starve to death. He goes to ask the Ant for help. The lesson he has learned his lesson. The script ends on a cliffhanger. It does not answer whether the Ant helps the Grasshopper or not. This becomes a writing assignment for the students to do and the question is at the bottom of the script. We find most students to be VERY opinionated about this question and motivated to write. We use reader's theaters to encourage our students to practice fluency. It is a fun way to do something that they need. Our scripts are mainly in black and white so they photo copy easily. As you are aware, Spanish - like any other language, must be read and spoken for a student to become fluent. The problem with many other reader's theaters is that students spend a lot of time waiting for their part. When you have a small group they get more practice in and less off task behaviors take place. Ours names are Julio Lopez and Melanie Whitesides but my store name is LosDosMaestros and we hope that your students enjoy this script as much as ours did. If you like this script look for other Aesop tales that will be coming soon. Let us know how things go!
