In this lab, students will construct two profiles - one of Mount St. Helens before the 1980 eruption and one of Mount St. Helens after the 1980 eruption. This allows students to better interpret a complex topographic map and to visualize changes in the landform. Students will also calculate gradient and compare steepness.
The PowerPoint includes custom animations and an answer key.
Contour map analysis
Map scale distance
Steepness of slope
Real-world application of profiles
