Product Description
This product contains 2 versions of a 4-page lab document that challenges students to investigate thermal radiation by examining which material absorbs and transmits thermal radiation at a faster rate: dull and black materials or shiny and silvery materials.

This lab is conducted by taking two empty cans, one painted a flat black color and one can left a shiny, silvery color and placing a thermometer or temperature probe inside. The cans are then placed in front of a heat lamp for 10 minutes, and then allowed to cool for an additional 10 minutes. The internal temperature of each can is measured and recorded every minute for the duration of the lab activity.

- A teacher-directed, more-prescriptive lab investigation, complete with detailed procedure and analysis questions
- A student-directed, more open-ended lab investigation, where students plan and perform their own experiment. Written in a different font to show the difference in the lab report format.
