GAMES WITH GOALS! LATIN animals bingo games: an ideal activity for developing listening, speaking, reading and writing/spelling skills. It's also really useful for a focus on the general 'absence' of article in LATIN, as well as gender.
The pack includes 21 non-editable files:
ONE & TWO: 40 picture-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). You can give students a random selection of pages, with students selecting the order of grids they play from. You can also cut out the grids, and place them in a small bowl or similar object on tables. Students select grids randomly from the bowl. Depending on the size of your class, you should have several winners per game! You might prefer to laminate the grids, especially if you are printing in color - students can use wipe-clean pens, and you can recycle the grids many times. Color and B&W.
THREE: 40 LATIN word-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages).

FIVE: 4 12-square grid template for students to create their own word or picture grids for each other.

PLAY SILENT BINGO!
Select a grid type for students - picture-only, LATIN word or English word. Using the SILENT BINGO files, show each slide at varying speeds. Students cross off the corresponding word or picture. These are really versatile, with a range of challenges,
and depending on which skills you want to focus on - for example, show the pictures only using LATIN words grids for vocab recall & reading practice; show the English words using LATIN words grids for mini-translation practice as well as vocab recall/reading; show the LATIN words using English word grids for reading & vocab recall - students have to be completely silent - it’s a really popular way of playing bingo! There are 5 different games of each type: picture-only, LATIN words, English words. All the bingo games in this set are designed for players to cross off all the words or pictures on their grids in order to win the game.
GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR BINGO PACK!
Before playing, read all twenty animals out loud in LATIN several times, with students repeating carefully - this not only helps students develop confidence in reading LATIN, but also introduces them to words they may not actually know. There is a dual learning focus: embedding vocabulary with gender, and underpinning skills development: listening, speaking, reading, writing, spelling and memory/recall. So it doesn’t matter if the games include animals that you’re not actually working on at the
moment, it’s actually really useful! Students can also have their own calling card to read out loud from, one for a small group of students is sufficient - this will help them to link sound and spelling in LATIN.
The animals I’ve chosen include both masculine and feminine nouns, with some cognates. This maximizes opportunity to practice grammatical concepts and develop linguistic awareness too. Give students a little time to have a quick look over their grids first. Create bingo teams, each with an animal-themed team name - playing competitively in teams keeps up a lively pace! For each game, select a different animal as the ‘winning word’ for students to call out when they win the game. Students must recite all the words in their grids to check that they have actually won - also giving another opportunity for practicing language. As you call out words in random order, remember to tick them on your calling card so that you can check the winners’ words - you’ll be able to use the same calling card for multiple games. Let students be the bingo caller too. Call out LATIN words for picture and LATIN grids, LATIN words for English grids, and English words for LATIN grids to vary the challenge.
