Product Description
LDC (literacy design collaborative) assignments and notes scaffold for student research on the topic of climate change. This document includes the "built-in standards" that came with the template from LDC, as well as the portion I give to students and the notes scaffold that the students write on.
Task = Climate change and global warming are words we often hear on the news. What is global climate change and what factors contribute to it? Do you think human activities play a key role or a negligible role in climate change throughout Earth’s history? During and after reading 3 informational texts from the choices given, take notes in a detailed outline format. Include multiple pieces of supporting text evidence and citations. Be sure to acknowledge competing views. Give examples from past or current events or issues to illustrate and clarify your position.
The links in the resources section should be current (last used May 2013) and I restrict students to these instead of having them go off into googleland. My students then put the citations in their outlines so that I would know where all their facts came from. This assignment can be and LDC designs it wo be the segway into a full fledged essay, but I have yet to go that far with my 7th graders. They were very successful with the outline and prescribed sources (including my learning support students) and I took the baby-step of having them write an introduction paragraph for their outline.
