Start practicing for the state tests early this year! This practice test will help get your students ready for state assessments. If you're looking for a way to get students ready without overwhelming them, strategically use the task cards set in small groups or in cooperative groups, as Bell Ringers/Do Nows or as formative assessments. This test practice is labeled as third grade material but can be easily used on many levels.

With this product, your students will get practice with close reading, gaining meaning across texts, and using text evidence to support their answers. Each story and question has been designed to match the rigor of Common Core standards and other state standards.
The practice test can be used for practice, but we've also made sure it is ready to go if you need a graded assessment in the format used for recent standardized assessments.
A little more info about how and why we scaffolded the constructed response answers:
We've always had trouble with students not being able to answer a constructed response question completely, and we've struggled with how to manage the many levels of proficiency within one classroom.
We have some students who write beautiful, well thought out answers that address EVERYTHING the prompt asks, students who have no idea where to begin, and everything in between! This will save lots of planning time, and you'll be really happy with the results if you use what we’ve created to reach just about every student in your class. It makes test prep much easier!
This is how we've set up the scaffolding. First, for the constructed response question, we've provided an exemplar response in case you'd like to share what a top-quality response looks and sounds like. Then you'll give out one of four provided constructed response pages depending on the level of each student. The options you'll have in your download are:
1) for non-writers/those who don't know where to start: a fill-in-the-blank answer frame with clues along the way
2) for reluctant writers: an already deconstructed prompt in which they'll answer questions along the way as a form of prewriting
3) for almost-there writers: bullet points after the prompt to remind students what to include for a top quality answer
4) for proficient writers: only the prompt and space for an answer
