    Description

UPDATED The Legend of the Bluebonnet and The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush are two beautiful books written by Tomie DePaola. The two legends about wildlfowers are perfect for a spring novel studies. This unit includes a study of legends, character traits, and story elements. I've also included activities about wildflowers. (I have reviewed the product to make sure it is appropriate in depicting Native Americans. This is a legend by Tomie DePaola and focuses on the book, legends, wildflowers, and students doing their own research about the Comanche culture. If teachers do not wish to use any part of the product, they are welcome to leave out those slides.)

    In this Unit:

    - Elements of a legend poster

    - Memory Game – Color photo cards of wildflowers and names

    - QR Codes with descriptions of wildflowers and video – This can be used for the research activity or just to have at a center.

This unit is a tribute to Lady Bird Johnson who brought the beauty of the wildflowers to Austin, the Texas hill country and other U.S. cities. Lady Bird wanted all children to enjoy the beauty of the wildflowers. If you are ever in Austin, I hope you visit the Lady Bird Wildflower Center to learn about native plants, observe the butterfly garden and learn about the research being done by scientists.
