Included in this set of challenge task cards is 6 engaging multipart programming challenges that use critical thought to introduce students to basic MindStorm EV3 programming skills.
I created this set of challenge cards after searching online for an EV3 curriculum that integrated critical thinking skill into the robotics experience and started with the basics and grew in complexity. I came up empty handed so I created a plan for my students myself. Most robotics curriculum "feed" the programming steps to the students by providing step by step instructions. Others are too basic or too complex for my students. My task cards introduce students to a one or more blocks, sensors or flow controls on each card and then ask students to reason though activities of increasing difficulty. One poster template is also included for making a mat needed to complete one of the challenges.
Set A contains 6 tasks that introduce movement, turns, color sensor, ultrasonic sensor, touch sensor, display, sound, switches and loops. All task cards in this set require the basic robot included in the EV3 education set instructions.
I use these cards with students as young as gifted 2nd grade and throughout upper elementary grades. It would also be appropriate for midschool students. I allow groups to work through each task card at an independent pace.
