Leia needs to lose the Stormtroopers. She jumps down the garbage shoot and lands in the trash compactor. LEIA HIDES in the SLIME and a bunch of other I_E words that your students will build in this Scrabble/Upword-style game.
Each player begins the game with one "I" and "E" and five other letter tiles. They use their tiles to build I_E words across and down the game board. Each word is recorded and scored (the score is a sum of the points earned for each letter). If a player builds on a droid, they earn earn double points.
A fun twist to this game is to allow players to replace letters in words on the board--by stacking letters on top of the ones they are replacing. This results in a faster-paced, higher scoring game, so have a calculator and extra recording sheets handy!
To get started, print the game board and letter tiles on cardstock. I like to attach my game board to the inside of a file folder. Glue the letter tiles onto cardboard and cut them apart with a utility knife. Also print the I_E word list and provide each player with a LEIA HIDES in the SLIME recording sheet and pencil.
Now you are ready for some phonics (and addition) fun!
