Close reading or analyzing data in a graph is something that our students are expected to do whether it is for middle or high school standardized state assessments or Advanced Placement exams. This method of graph analysis uses the easy-to-follow acronym "LENSES" to analyze data in any line graph. The college prep program called AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) utilizes this method in their middle and high school AVID science classes. It is perfect for states following Next Generation Science Standards, states who do not follow Next Generation or homeschooled students!
