I wanted to create a resource dealing with equal rights and was able to team up with the 73 year-old father of the art teacher at my school. A retired Vietnam vet who specializes in water color painting was open to the idea to help create this LGBTQ painting recreation I had in mind, but he didn't know what LGBTQ meant. Our art teacher sat with him and had a wonderful father-daughter experience, and he took my simple sketch and turned it into what you see here.
Just as the soldiers on the island of Iwo Jima raised the American flag on Mount Suribachi as a symbol of victory, we decided to go along with that theme.
This painting recreation will end up as a large mosaic with 30 sheets of printer paper to display on a classroom or hallway wall. #teachingtolerance
10% of my yearly sales of this resource will be donated to the National LGBTQ Task Force.
I ALSO HAVE THE IWO JIMA RECREATION AVAILABLE AS WELL:
