Have your students graph and interpret data in line plots with these fun center interactive activities. Students will work with fractions of a unit and whole numbers to collate and display data using interactive materials like visual cards, dice, spinners, candy, coins and other real-life data.

►

✅ 13 center Activities (color and blackline): for each center activity students will follow the instructions on a task card to plot data on a line plot and interpret data plotted on a response sheet; 1 poster defining line plots; center checklist

✅ Eight page booklet (4 sheets) that require students to plot and interpret data in each problem: instructions to photocopy back to back and compile included.

✅ Vocabulary/ mathematical terminology cards display

✅ Line Plot Poster/Anchor Chart

✅ Center Checklist

This is a basic starter activity. A six-sided dice is rolled 15 times and numbers recorded on a line plot. Students work with response sheets and a task card to interpret data collected and recorded.

This activity involves working with fractions of a unit to solve addition and subtraction problems. A scenario task sheet, fraction cards and response sheet target recording and plotting of data on a Line Plot.

Students make their own fraction cube from a given template and roll it 10 times. Data is recorded on a Line Plot. A task card is used to interpret data collected and recorded.

Growth chart task cards are used to solve the problem outlined in the scenario sheet. Data is collected from each task card and recorded on a Line Plot. Students solve problems relating to addition and subtraction of fractions of a unit outlined in task sheet.

Students will use card visuals to record the number of Kings, Queens, Jacks and Aces. They follow instructions on the task card to plot and interpret data collected.

Students will toss three coins to record the number of Heads. They follow instructions on the task card to plot and interpret data collected.

Students will roll a dice to record the number of times each number is rolled. They follow instructions on the task card to plot and interpret data collected.

Students will take a class survey to record the favorite film genre. They follow instructions on the task card to plot and interpret data collected.

Students will write their classmates names on the template and count the number of letters in each name. They follow instructions on the task card to plot and interpret data collected.

Students will spin the spinner and record the number of times the spinner lands on a given color. They follow instructions on the task card to plot and interpret data

collected.

CCSS6.SP.B.5a

Reporting the number of observations.

CCSS6.SP.B.5

Summarize numerical data sets in relation to their context, such as by:

CCSS6.SP.B.4

Display numerical data in plots on a number line, including dot plots, histograms, and box plots.

CCSS5.MD.B.2

Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Use operations on fractions for this grade to solve problems involving information presented in line plots. For example, given different measurements of liquid in identical beakers, find the amount of liquid each beaker would contain if the total amount in all the beakers were redistributed equally.

CCSS4.MD.B.4

Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Solve problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions by using information presented in line plots. For example, from a line plot find and interpret the difference in length between the longest and shortest specimens in an insect collection.
