Product Description
Literacy Menu Boards are great tools to use during your ELA block. Literacy Menu Bulletin Board Posters and the Student Literacy Menu template will keep you and your students organized!

What is a Literacy Menu?

A Literacy Menu is a type of choice menu that empowers students to meet learning goals through CHOICE! Giving students choices allows them to feel control over their OWN learning because they are choosing activities that appeal to them!

There are so many types of choice menus if you do a Google search, but this particular one is one that I modified to fit my students’ needs. I wanted something that allowed me to meet in small groups, but also had the students working on engaging activities for certain skills we were learning during the week.

What I love about using this modified literacy menu is that you can still do center activities! In fact, with this, you can try out a variety of strategies each week, yet still keep a rhythm and routine going!

My Literacy Menu Signs contain a Title poster, Teacher’s Table, Main Course, and a Dessert Choice poster. I place these four signs on my Focus Wall and it's just helpful to look up and see what activity choices students have! If someone walks in my classroom during my ELA block, they will know what we are all working on! Just a great VISUAL TOOL! I use an Expo marker to write one them, and erase with a Lysol wipe...but LAMINATE first!

1) Title Sign: This Says "Literacy Menu" and has a place for you to write the lesson # of the title of the book you are reading.

2) Teacher’s Table: These are the skills the students will learn during small groups.

3) Main Course: These are the REQUIRED activities students need to complete before the week is over. Here you can make a list of activities OR you can go above and beyond and use the CHOICE BOARD tool provided! When using the choice board, you can write "refer to choice board" on the poster, and the students simply note which activities they completed on their own sheet (provided as well).

4) Dessert Choice: These are the activities students choose when all main courses are completed. This would also be a good time when students could take an AR quiz! I usually make a list of activities or place choices in a bin labeled “desserts”. You could also use another choice board for this!
