PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This curriculum is a research based unit on identifying theme in literature and is geared towards middle school students. Using the methods used in Finnish schools and the theories of Howard Gardner (Multiple Intelligence) and Multiliteracies, students are taught the difficult concept of identifying theme in a format that engages them and gives them tangible tools to use through out their education.
The curriculum includes a summary of the research used in creating the curriculum, a guide for teachers in how to use it, and lesson plans for each portion of the unit. The unit is split into two parts, learning the terms and applying the terms, and can take anywhere from 5 sessions to several months to complete depending on the novel chosen for the application. It can be used with any novel assigned to the class and the tools taught in this unit can be used by students through out their education.
