This file contains 4 lesson plans. They are my lesson plans for the Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention program…the BLUE kit. It is a Word file so it is fully editable if you would like to change anything for your class.

I did not create every lesson from this level. I only teach the books that are on that actual level. For example, if I am working with a group of students that are reading on a Fountas and Pinnell level K, I will only teach the level L lessons that use a level L book (none of the lower level ones) and I chose the 4 that I feel are important. Each of the 4 lesson plans for this lesson last for at least three days. Here is how I teach the information over the three days:
Day 1: I introduce the phonics and do a lot of work in this area. Then I introduce the book and begin reading it. This day has a lot of guide support.
Day 2: I continue the phonics skill. I do not spend as much time on phonics as I do the previous day. Then I do guided reading with the text. If there is time, we begin the writing portion. The students have a little less support than they do the previous day.
Day 3: I teach the guided reading lesson with the same text and then complete the writing portion. The Writing About Reading portion is differentiated with a high, medium, and low activity. Students are grouped into a particular leveled writing activity depending on their progress through the text on the previous days. On this day, I try to give the students the least amount of support and make it as much as a “student-led” activity as possible.
I also group several similar lessons from the guide and incorporate them into only one of my lessons plans. For example, one of my lesson plans may contain a phonics skill from lessons 24 and 25 in the guide, a guided reading lesson from lesson 25 in the guide, and a writing lesson from lesson 26 in the guide. I looked at all of the skills as a whole and grouped each of the lessons in the guide accordingly to flow a little better.
Each of these 4 lesson plans includes the following components: unit/lesson topic, objective (written as Today I will…so I can. I’ll know I’ve got it when…), Common Core Learning Standards, vocabulary words, materials, prerequisite skills, connection and learning plan scaffold, higher order thinking questions, differentiation, closure, reinforce an extend learning.
After each lesson plan, I have also included the type of organizer (4-column chart, etc.) needed for that lesson, the task cards for the On-Level and Above-Level Writing About Reading differentiated activities (labeled with a tiny “o” for “On-Level” or “a” for “Above-Level” in the corner), and all of the word cards needed for each activity. You will still need the LLI kit for the books, assessments, My Words Chart, Consonant Clusters Linking Chart (needed for only a couple of lessons), and any additional picture cards you may want to use. I also listed additional vocabulary words that are optional to show your students. However, I did not include the pictures of these due to copyright issues.
