This begins the chapters/eras I really want to cover but NEVER get to due to state testing but I know my students would love doing this material and the contemporary era. Mainly because the items are things they and their parents and grandparents lived through. But state testing never covers this because they don't think like I do. They don't cover the "important" material that will help my students throughout their lives.
State testing is mainly for the glorification of the Politian's who write the laws not the students who only get one shot at Louisiana history unless they go to college and take history and learn more about our state. Therefore, I have to cover everything that I can – the music, the culture, the people, the cities/towns, the food, the parishes, the waterways, the festivals, the resources, the geography, the weather, the on and on and on and. You get the picture. I end up doing the very best I can in the very limited time I get between the activities, holidays, the meetings, the school interruptions, etc., etc., etc.
