This is just one of my favorite Louisiana History projects that gets students in choosing their own project and detective work. It is always fun just to let them pick but you do have to be knowledgeable about everything so that you can give a true grade.
I have taught for so long that I do know the background information and don’t have to use a rubric in grading this type of work. It also makes things so much more interesting to see just what they think and how students present the info.
When you offer so many different types of names, events, places, and time periods, you never know what you will get from class to class, year to year. I have been so amazed at the things I get when I THINK I know what my students will do. Then, they surprise the heck out of me each time.
Just be prepared for anything on this list from early explorers to current issues. Everything is far game.
A look into my teaching of my middle school American and Louisiana state history than I have tried to cover in teaching during my 27 years.
