Since I live in the Neutral Strip, I have always been interested in the fact that we were not even consider part of the Louisiana Purchase. It made for a great discussion in my classroom overt the years.
No matter how you look at it, VDs are always useful in the study of history. Almost anything can be turned into a VD if you just have the understand and time to teach them, use them, and grade them. Over the years I have always found places for them and my students have become less and less afraid of them since they generally don't require a lot of writing.
Part of my use of them comes from my ELA background and just wanting to do anything interdisciplinary in scope. Of course, I have an Art background also so that leads to doing all types of art projects in history also.
