As a practicing Louisiana history teacher of 27+ years I was always looking for some way to engage my students with 'real world' skills. This was just ONE way to get them to think about our parish and the places around them.
Then I started thinking about the next parish over, then the next, and I got to thinking generically about what I might ask. I wanted to use this more than once or twice. So I decided I wanted to use very common types of items to extend my student knowledge. I did decide to include food places, cable TV companies, banks, churches, roads/highways, schools, radio stations, drug stores, pizza places – both chain and non-chain types.
I would pass out different questions to different students each day just to give them a different take on our own parish. I also included a set of blank "Name 3 Things" sheets for your own use.
Send me your questions and I will add them to my own list for my students also.
