My students have always loved to do most of my assignments because I tend to leave their selections up to them – a student choice, so to speak. But it does cover the information, at almost always has led to them to want to 'do more' simply because the assignment is so 'easy'. They generally don't know they are learning – at first.
Print both sheets for each student. This assignment only ask them to select a Louisiana person that fits the title, ACTOR-male or female, SINGER-male or female , any genre, black or white, Cajun/country/folk/gospel, WRITER-fiction/non-fiction/historical/etc, VILLIAN- bank-robbers/pirates/etc, ARTIST-male or female, painter, sculpture, landscape, photographer, ect, CRAFT-woodworking, needlepoint, etc, CHEF-male or female, Cajun/Creole, African-American, soul, traditional.
Please don’t LIMIT this list to just these selections – this is only a guide – a starting point.
Louisiana has so many of each of these categories/sub groups that you better be prepared for what your student's may select. I know I was always surprised.
Have them select one Name for each, then write a complete, proper sentence, one or two about who/what/why this person is known for. They will find out they CAN'T write a lot so therefore student's tend not to be intimidated by this assignment – PLUS you gave them the chance to select who they like, want to research, who they want to know more about, what interest them.
You get to learn a lot about your students and they never see it coming. It has always made my year so much better, my discipline so much better
