I love giving my classes a choice or a chance to give their own opinion. I tend to get 'answers' that span the classroom and their own brain – there IS 'no wrong answers'. I tend to grade on the fact that THEY gave me an answer and if pushed, they can back their answers up.
This worksheet is nothing but opinions anyway. I had just old my students, "just be able to argue your opinion if asked", and generally they have good reason for the opinions they have given.
It has always been a "non-graded" assignment. The ONLY grade they get is "Did they do the assignment – YES or NO?
The Treaty of Fountainbleu has ALWAYS been a big discussion since Louisiana is still a French state. There are so many other 'opinion' questions here (What if's…) I like to call them. 1) What was the King thinking about? 2) Why Spain? 3) Did he really want to ditch the colony? 4) Why did Spain really want the colony? 5) Did Spain REALLY want the colony? And so forth.
And Spain did not keep the colony for long before it was 'given' back to France – about 40 years was all. That leads to another whole set of opinion questions.
