The purpose of this card is to give a student visual support during lunch period. My primary goal for the child is to look as much like their peers as possible. If someone were to walk into the lunch area, could they pick out the child with special needs? This card helps the adult be as discreet as possible in reminding the child of the task and duration of the task. The small size also allows the adult/child to carry it discreetly to the lunch area OR store it in the lunch area.
Print the card on card stock, cut out, then laminate.
Add velcro dots if you wish to change out the visuals.
The blank Lunch support cards leave options for the adult to model for the child using objects, timer, etc. (Once laminated, you may fill in the card with dry erase marker.)
Options are endless and should meet the needs of the child. Each child responds to communication differently. Have an open mind: Objects, sign language, Boardmaker graphics, digital picture of the lunch area or seat. Allow older children to fill it out themselves.
