In this lesson, students learn sequencing of a short story, using "La Bamba" / LaBamba by Gary Soto. Vocabulary includes: chronological order, flashback, and episode, as well as theatre vocabulary (cast, pantomime...)
Complete with an essential question, preview vocabulary, teaching strategies, assessment strategies, activity, and a graphic organizer, this packet comes with a PowerPoint, lesson plan, and 2 page student worksheet.
The PowerPoint is a complete lesson on sequencing. It reviews the elements of a short story and gives students opportunities to write what they learn as they are taught. Eventually, the short story "La Bamba" by Gary Soto is introduced. Along with background information, students are encouraged to use this story to practice the skills taught. Prediction questions, a comic strip sequence chart, and a stick figure graphic organizer are included to help students as they read.
This PowerPoint could be used with other short stories, but the majority of the slides relate directly to the short story, "La Bamba."
